Box It Up

Does it feel like for anyone else that someone opened Pandora’s box in 2020 and everything flew out? Like we should put everything in a box having to do with 2020 and just push it off a cliff and start over?

Well, to me it has. It feels like I’m boxing up emotions, old memories and shipping them out.

Because despite what they will say about 2020, hope was still left in that box.

I see it on people’s faces during the protests. I see it in people’s eyes, above their masks.

It’s there. All you have to do is look for it.

Bailey

Anyone, Everything

I don’t know how you’re feeling. I don’t know who needs to hear this. And I don’t know how to make things right.

But if you, like me, are at a loss today: of understanding, of confidence, of words. Then I will speak for you:

You are enough.

You are not alone.

It’s okay to be scared of the future.

It’s okay to be angry and upset.

It’s okay to emote and not hide.

It’s okay not to feel anything at all.

Like I said, I don’t know what you’re feeling at this time. But I’m here to tell anyone, that feeling everything at once is okay. You’ve got a lot going on, and your plate is full. We have a lot going on, and our plate is full. So, drink deeply of your emotions and take one mouthful at a time.

Love,

Bailey

Wishes on Eyelashes

So, I’ve been doing everything to make this one wish come true.

I’ve been waiting up until 11:11, I’ve been throwing pennies into a fountain, and I have been wishing on fallen eyelashes. As one does.

But nothing!

And so I can either blame the universe, blame God, blame the government.

Or, I can take ownership for my own actions and understand that only have the power to change my future.

Yes, that’s better.

And so if you’re wondering why your wishes are falling on deaf ears, remember only you have the power to change your life. So, take action. And watch your wishes come true! Or not! I’m not a genie!

Love,

Bailey

Friendly Reminder

This is your friendly reminder…to be friendly.

Yes, everyone out there is fighting a hard battle, and blah blah blah. But that’s not the most important reason to be nice to other people. Actually, why do you need a reason? This should be your default mode.

And you can come and tell me that you had a hard day, and life isn’t going the way you expect it to, and it was one time, but I’m going to reply: you had a choice. You always have a choice.

And don’t misunderstand me. When I say nice, I’m not referring to a doormat. I’m saying kind, generous, and friendly. Even when it’s hard to. Even when you’d rather not. Even when it’s not important.

Be a friend as often as possible. Because we all depend on each other.

Antici…pation

I wish I could live forever in this moment. Right before Christmas, done with my Christmas shopping, just ready to enjoy the day.

But isn’t that the best thing about the holidays? I mean, isn’t Christmas Eve sometimes more fun than Christmas? It’s all about the anticipation, the build up, the hype.

Which is why I’d like to live in this moment. Right here. And be in love with the whole world.

But time marches on and it never stops. So make sure you take look around or you’ll never notice the best part…the anticipation.

Go for Happy

This is your friendly reminder that you should be doing one thing that makes you happy every day.

I don’t care what it is. If it’s taking a bath, if it’s watching tv for an hour, or if it’s writing a blog.

Go for happy. The only question you should be asking yourself in deciding whether you should do something is to ask if it makes you happy. Then follow this really simple test: no > don’t do it. Yes > do it.

Now I can’t tell you what will make you happy. Only your heart can do that. But I would listen to it sooner rather than later…

Because life is short. We have to keep what makes us happy at the front of the line and forget about everything else. When you strive for happy, everything else will fall into place.

Be the Moon

I get it.

Not every day is going to be a rainbow wrapped butterfly with a cherry on top confection. I know that, and so do you.

But my motto is: if you can’t be the sun, be the moon.

That is, if you can’t radiate goodness and happiness like the sun, then the least you can do is reflect it. Be the moon, reflecting the light from the sun’s rays. Be the moon, and reflect what little good there is in the world.

So if someone is nice to you on a day where you don’t feel like the sun is shining very brightly, then pass it on. Reflect that goodness. And shine a little brighter for it. Even if that’s all you can do — hang in the sky and reflect. Even if all you can do is be the moon.

Hahaha

Listen.

I know life is hard sometimes. Actually, most of the time. Ok, ok. 90% of the time.

But do you know what you need to do? No, not eat a spoonful of sugar, or sip water through a paper towel, or take a nap.

You need a good belly laugh. You need your sense of humor. You need a bright side.

If you’ve run out of options, then laugh. If you’ve taken a long look at yourself and you want to cry, try laughing. Try telling yourself a joke.

Like this one:

What do you call a wet baby owl?

A moist owlet.

Or this one:

What do you call fake spaghetti?

Impasta.

And so on. Until you’re laughing again. Until you’re smiling again. Until the world doesn’t seem so bad anymore.

Laughter. It’s more than the best medicine. It’s a way of life.

Destination: Happiness

Happiness is always a moment away.

I'll be happy on Friday, when it's the weekend.
I'll be happy when I finally lose those 10 pounds.
I'll be happy when this is all over.

Happiness is hard to attain when you can't really ever reach it. It keeps getting pushed back. It's a destination, not a journey.

But what if happiness is right here? Right now? How differently would you function if happiness was a state that you could be in now?

Well, the answer is you can. Try it. Be happy. It's okay. I give you permission to drop anything that doesn't make you feel good. Smile into yourself.

See? Isn't it better now?

Let yourself be happy now. Don't wait.

OK, Universe!

Ok, universe! You win!

The fact that BOTH of my shoes came untied as I was carrying an armload of things shows me that I can't control everything and that I need to stop trying to.

Alright! We get it!

I am powerless to unmake a mistake but I can make sure I don't repeat it. And I can take more time to correct myself before moving on.

Fine, universe! You were right all along!

My body is tired at night because I am fighting you all day long. I'll stop fighting and start going with the flow. I promise.

Ok, universe! It makes sense now!

I can only give when I have enough. I can't do more if I'm not taking care of myself.

Ok, universe. What's next?
