Even Penguins

Maybe I’ve spent too much time online or maybe… no, that’s probably it.

But have you ever seen penguin videos where the penguins are walking along and, all of a sudden, they fall head over flippers? These creatures, who are so graceful in the water, have such a hard time on land. Granted, it is icy snow that they are trying to walk on. But still.

And then it hit me. Even penguins who spend their life out of the water, walking around and tripping; animals that have lived in the tundra for years upon years, who have readily adapted to this lifestyle; birds who walk and slide, instead of fly…

They still mess up sometimes too.

So, even if you’re really good at something, I mean, really good at it, you can still mess up sometimes. So, try to remember the next time you try something new and it doesn’t go so hot.

Maybe you just shine elsewhere.

Bailey

Lazy

If you’re like me and you’re abiding by the CDC rules, then you’ve been in your house for a few days. Which results in a few of the following:

  1. Sleeping and spending your day in your pajamas
  2. Not putting on make-up or otherwise brushing your hair
  3. Eating multiple meals over the course of the day

And if you’re like me, you also took advantage of the weekend and slept for many hours. (I think I woke up at noon on Sunday and I have no regrets.)

It’s easy, then, to feel like you’re being a bit lazy with yourself. But I can assure you, if you are anything like me, then you’re also a hardworker. So, a little laziness is to be expected, especially when you’re not allowed to do much of anything during this confusing, and horrifying time.

But how do I know if I’m being too lazy?

Well, that’s up for you to decide. It’s probably in between doing nothing and doing the dishes.

Just do you!

Bailey

Take Breaks

In the early days of this isolation, it’s always key to be mindful of tips that will increase the stamina of your…well, mind.

So, if you’re like me and you are on the internet all day, then you need to do me a favor and remember to TAKE. BREAKS.

On social media all day comparing yourself to everyone? TAKE A BREAK

On the coronavirus alert system to see what shenanigan is going on now? TAKE A BREAK

Working at home for hours on end? TAKE A BREAK

Eating a kit kat? TAKE A BREAK

Everyone’s anxious and everyone’s scared. And we’re all flocking to the internet to try distract, whine, cry, and be anxious together.

So, try to take breaks. You would if isolation didn’t keep you inside, so don’t forget to do it now.

Stop the World

The headlines right now make it feel like the world is stopping. And it feels like that too.

Barely anyone outside, minimal cars rolling by and that’s just what I can see outside of my window as I work from home.

It makes you feel like you’re living in a bubble.

But before you melt into the couch, know that it doesn’t have to be that way.

I mean, yes absolutely, practice social distancing. But you can still participate in your life online. Via social media you can still connect to your friends and family, and that can keep you from feeling isolated when you’re alone.

But above all:

Remember:

That everything is going to be okay. We might have a new normal for awhile. But at the end of it, we’re going to be okay.

How do I know that?

Because I have to believe that, that’s why.

Bailey

Captive Audience

Hello world!

Since you’re all a captive audience (because what else are you going to do when you’re stuck at home 24 hours a day) but read things on the internet!

And so we’re here.

So, allow me to dazzle you with some fun facts about me:

I love licking the sticky part of envelopes.

I was a double major in college, which I am very proud of.

I am double jointed in my jaw.

I kissed the Blarney stone but did not get the gift of gab.

My favorite color is yellow.

So, now it’s your turn! Give me 5 fun facts about you in the comments.

Like I said, what else are you going to do?

Love,

Bailey

On the Wrong Side

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

No matter what I did, I was annoyed and angry and tired, and I got up out of a warm bed with a chip on my shoulder.

But there’s one key thing you should remember: it doesn’t matter how you start your day, it only matters how you finish it.

So, anyway you take it, you don’t have to stay with a bad day. You can choose to change your day and your attitude. Just like that.

So, if you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, or you’re on the wrong side of the fence, or if you just feel wrong, then don’t worry.

It won’t last.

The Soul of a Woman

Yesterday was International Women’s Day, and I can’t say I did much.

But I think the point is that women, as a collective, do so much to prove themselves that it’s alright that we take one day out of the year to do nothing. There’s all these seminars about bettering yourself and book talks about how you can be the perfect wife or girlfriend or best friend and there’s not much telling women to just be themselves.

So, today, in honor of International Women’s Day, I want to tell all women, yes all women, whether you identify as a woman, or not, that you are a woman and that’s enough. Strong, brave, clever, passionate. You are all these things because you are a woman. It comes with the territory.

Because that’s how you should define women. Not what’s between their legs. But the strength of what beats in their chest.

So, if that’s you, then celebrate IWD with everything you got. You’re woman. And you  should be proud.

Signs

On my house hunt, my mom visited a psychic. (Before I go any further, I have to say, I do believe in psychics, ghosts, and whatever takes your socks from the dryer so you only have one of the pair. And I have to admit, if I didn’t believe in all these things, life would be oh so boring.)

Anyway, the psychic said that I was going to buy a house near water. And for you skeptics out there, I agree that it was a pretty general thing to say. But did that stop me from looking for water around every house? I would see a river running in the backyard or a fountain and I’d go THIS IS IT! And then, it wouldn’t be and I would say, “but I thought you said…”

Then we bought the home we currently live in. It was utterly devoid of water, until my friendly neighbor told us there is a creek in the back of the next house over. So, there’s my water and everything is right with the world.

But despite the obvious “don’t believe in psychics,” there’s another lesson here.

Just because you have the sign you’re looking for doesn’t mean that you’ll find what you’re looking for.

I went through many houses that I thought were the one, and you’ll do that too. You’ll think something is a sign, but for what, is unclear. And you’ll get your sign, but who knows, what if that leaves you down the wrong path?

So, be cautious of signs and remember, what you’re looking for isn’t always what you’ll want in the end.

Eat First

Like most of us, I have a routine when I come home from work. I get the mail, open any packages, eat dinner, and then I work on whatever the day demands, most likely this blog.

But I invariably eat before I’ve started anything else. And the reason is simple: I’m hungry. Or so I thought.

Say what you will about thinking on an empty stomach, but the real reason is because when I’m eating, it’s something I do for myself. No one else around me needs to benefit from my eating — it’s the only time of day that I can take time out for myself. I usually don’t do anything else while I eat, and I focus on the food coming into my body and nourishing me.

And so, whatever your routine may be, make sure you take some time for yourself. Whether you’re eating or watching tv or reading a book. Make sure you make time for yourself. Because no one should be able to take that away from you.

Wishes on Eyelashes

So, I’ve been doing everything to make this one wish come true.

I’ve been waiting up until 11:11, I’ve been throwing pennies into a fountain, and I have been wishing on fallen eyelashes. As one does.

But nothing!

And so I can either blame the universe, blame God, blame the government.

Or, I can take ownership for my own actions and understand that only have the power to change my future.

Yes, that’s better.

And so if you’re wondering why your wishes are falling on deaf ears, remember only you have the power to change your life. So, take action. And watch your wishes come true! Or not! I’m not a genie!

Love,

Bailey
